Carl Hinderager
Carl Hinderager and his wife have three sons. Carl, a native of Montana, is a semi-retired college professor, government trapper, waterfowl outfitter and has been a national champion basketball coach. Carl and his three sons have taken six mule deer that gross over 200 (see deer photos).
Dan Chamberlain
Dan and his wife have three children. Dan
has his own construction company and is a local policeman but still takes time
to hunt and outfit. He is known for his enthusiasm, creativity and quality
work. Dan is an avid bow hunter and has taken both monster white tail and mule
deer.
Our Story
Thunder Creek Outfitters has been operating for over 20 years. My guide, Dan, and I have a combined total of over 80 years of waterfowl hunting in this exact area. We typically both help with the decoy set up and then I leave to spot while Dan stays with the hunters to make subtle adjustments to the spread once he sees how the birds finish. When the hunting pressure increases we sometimes both spot because we are trying to keep tabs on over 1,000 square miles of country. A typical day would involve about 150 miles of driving back roads and trails. Like many other things, decoying birds is all about location. Field decoying one spot in the morning and different spot in the afternoon makes outfitting quite challenging.
Our business has grown largely from word of mouth. We have wonderful clients and most return year after year. I love hunting with my three sons so I appreciate that nearly all of our hunting parties have at least one father-son in the group. Dogs are not essential for the kind of field decoying we do, but some groups do bring hunting dogs and enjoy that as well.
Dan and I both work very hard to provide the best hunting we can for our clients. High quality equipment helps but we are also known for our creativity, efficiency and work ethic. We love waterfowl hunting and are constantly trying new decoys and ideas to become as knowledgeable as possible and gain an edge over these beautiful and intelligent birds.
